Gabit Baizhanov

Former Syrbar chief (Kazakhstan)

Gabit Zhakypbaevich Baizhanov, referred to popularly as Gabit Baizhanov, is a former two-term Director of Syrbar or the Foreign Intelligence Service of Kazakhstan's National Security Committee following its restructuring from erstwhile Barlau Service (1993-2009).

Known Professional History:-

• Deputy Director of the erstwhile Barlau Service (2007-09)

• First Deputy Director of Syrbar (2009-15); was promoted to Major General rank in 2010

• Director of Syrbar (2015-18)

• Assistant to President Nursultan Nazarbayev/ Secretary of the Security Council (2018-19); was promoted to Lieutenant General rank in 2018

• Director of Syrbar (2019-23)

• Additional appointment as Deputy Chairman of National Security Committee (2019-23)
